Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation. The Prophet Joel

For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding
 King David 1040-970 BC

It is a duty, which men owe to their posterity, to transmit the knowledge of their ancestors. Minute and circumstantial accounts of our friends fathers and progenitors acquire an
interest in our feelings and imparts joy to our hearts, which the stranger intermeddleth not with.
 Wilkes Allen
Pastor of the First Church and
 Society in Chelmsford. Author of
 "The History of Chelmsford" 1820

Have you ever wondered, either verbally or inwardly, "why is our family from ..." (fill in where you're from). At age 14, to this day I remember that thought coming to me, and then presenting it to my dad. He then gave me the best explanation that was available at the time, but it only fertilized and watered the desire in me to discover my heritage, ... "our Allen's", of Walton County Georgia.

Walton County was created on December 15, 1818. "Our Allen's" wouldn't arrive in the County until the early 1900's. Where were we? When did we come to Walton County? Who brought "our Allen" lineage to Walton County?

It has been a tremendous and fascinating experience for this genealogist to uncover and to shed light on these and many other of "our Allen family" missing links. To locate final resting places, documents and evidence that has clarified the, "probably", parts of our story.

Thus far, it appears that there are two, "unrelated" Allen lines intertwined throughout Walton County history. Our ancestor Preacher, (that we were told about in our family stories), has been located in Anderson County, South Carolina. Thus far, (2011), it appears that he and his family story is "unbelievably" very similar to "our Allen" missionary family in Brazil today.

But not all of our ancestors were "upright" citizens, one particular ancestor; and possibly another, of ours may have gotten away with murder. As we embark our journey of discovery we must try to keep in mind that we descend from a long line of, humans. Our ancestors strove and endured trials, troubles and temptations such as we do today. A man once said to this genealogist, "I've traced my lineage to Royalty in England". I replied, "I've traced our's to wife and children abandoners, horse thief's, moonshiners, and possibly a murderer in Texas".

Well, if you too relate to the afore mentioned desire to "discover", (whether Royalty or Rustler), will you join me in piecing together our long lost story of, "The Allen's of Walton County Georgia"?

Please, do contact me with "your piece" of "our Allen family" story, I sincerely look forward to hearing from you, and especially, together building "our Allen's of Walton County Georgia" tree.

Gratefully,
 Scott E. Allen
 Walton Co., GA
